What babies know
Do you wonder how your infant’s mind and communication abilities develop so rapidly? Current studies continue to contribute to our knowledge of normally developing infant and early childhood milestones.
This research ultimately benefits children who may be at risk for problems with learning language, reading and other cognitive skills. You can participate with your baby:
- online from a home computer
- by visiting one of our BabyLab centres at Western Sydney University in Bankstown, Kingswood or Westmead.
Learn more about the MARCS BabyLab study and how you can participate (PDF 1.87MB).

Statewide Infant Screening - Hearing (SWIS-H) Program
Your baby will be offered a series of health checks in the first few weeks of life. One of these looks for hearing loss. The hearing screen will be offered as soon as possible after birth.
The NSW Statewide Infant Screening – Hearing (SWIS-H) Program aims to identify babies born with significant hearing loss and introduce them to appropriate services as soon as possible. It is important have a hearing check for your baby.
Parents can learn more about the NSW Statewide Infant Screening - Hearing (SWIS-H) program and access translations of the SWIS-H factsheets in 31 languages.
