Updating your gender details
If the gender on your record has changed, let us know so we can update your details.
Updating your gender details
Keeping your records up to date makes it a smoother process to renew or replace a licence or photo card issued by Transport for NSW.
To update your gender details, visit a service centre in person with your proof of identity documents. You also need to bring an original of one of the following:
- birth certificate showing your gender
- a List 1 document showing your gender
- Recognised Details Certificate that states your gender, issued by NSW Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages(BDM) or similar interstate authority.
From 1 July 2025, customers born in NSW that changed gender will be issued by BDM:
- a birth certificate including new gender marker with no indication that the change has taken place
- a one-off previous birth certificate watermarked “this birth certificate was issued for linking purposes only"
- a verification letter confirming that a change of sex has been legally registered in NSW.
If you've also changed your name, see what documents you need to bring with you.
