Bus changes across South East Sydney
As part of Transport’s plan to deliver a better bus network, we are looking for ways to improve bus journeys across South East Sydney.
This includes additional services on key routes, more seats, timetable changes, and route changes to help provide a better-connected public transport experience.

Have your say: Bus stop on York Street, Sydney
Transport for NSW (Transport) are seeking feedback on a proposed bus stop on York Street, Sydney.
In December 2021 the City of Sydney introduced the King Street cycleway which resulted in changes to bus route 389. Bus route 389 operates from Pyrmont to Bondi Junction via the Sydney CBD.
Prior to 2021, the first bus stop in the Sydney CBD for services coming from Pyrmont was on King Street near York Street. Currently the first city stop for services coming from Pyrmont is at Sussex Street after King Street.
To allow for better customer access to central CBD destinations, a new stop is proposed for route 389 on York Street after King Street.
What is being proposed?
- Eight metres of ‘No Parking’ will be removed and replaced with 30 metres of ‘Bus Zone’.
- Existing ‘No Parking – coaches excepted 15 minute time limit’ will be relocated 22 metres south.
- 22 metres of “Loading Zone and four hour parking’ will be removed.
- Changes to coach parking.
What are the benefits?
- Passengers on bus route 389 would be able to board and alight at a bus stop on York Street after King Street.

Previous bus announcements
These changes aim to improve safety, align with new school bell times, and redirect underused services.
- Randwick High School has changed its Wednesday bell time, so some afternoon trips have been retimed to start later.
- Some bus routes have been adjusted to operate on different roads to avoid difficult turns and improve safety, an example of this includes buses rerouted to operate on Avoca Street instead of Barker Street.
- To better allocate resources, several afternoon trips with low student numbers will no longer operate, with some alternative services available. These include bus routes:
- 613e
- 618e
- 631e
- 633e
- 636e
- 637e
- 645e
- 678e.
- For Cranbrook Senior School, two routes; 680e and 681e now start one stop earlier to improve accessibility.
- Bus route 682e will operate an additional afternoon trip at 15:40 to provide extra capacity for Cranbrook Senior students and now start one stop earlier to improve accessibility.
- Other changes include:
- Bus route 615e has been rerouted and retimed.
- Bus routes 623e, 629e, and 647e have been rerouted and adjusted for bell time changes.
- Bus route 652e has been truncated at Randwick HS and retimed.
Upcoming bus changes
From Sunday 16 November, there will be timetable adjustments and additional services for some bus routes across parts of South East Sydney.
What’s changing?
New bus timetables will be introduced across parts of South East Sydney. These changes are being made to reduce crowding on services with high demand, improve reliability and enhance the passenger experience. These timetable adjustments will also address reliability and other operational issues, improving overall service delivery.)
Key timetable adjustments to improve reliability include:
- 10 bus routes with additional services (bus routes 313, 324, 325, 326, 333, 350, 360, 361, 362 and 387)
- 3 bus routes with seasonal timetable changes to accommodate differences in passenger demand (routes 333, 380 and 381)
- 1 route with a route change and timetable change (route 328)
- 2 bus routes with timetable changes only (routes 352 and 355)
- 7 bus routes with slightly reduced services (routes 323, 327, 328, 379, 380, 386 and 380)
There will also be changes to some dedicated school bus services. Transport and our bus operators are working closely with schools that may be impacted by these changes, to ensure students and their communities are aware of the changes, and how they need to adjust their journeys. Students who catch regular bus passenger routes may also have changes to their journey. We encourage students to plan before they travel.
To plan your trip in advance, use Transport’s Trip Planner to ensure dedicated school services appear as a travel option for students, click ‘refine’ and select the ‘school bus’ option. Students are reminded to tap on and off on all trips.

Transport for NSW (Transport) is proposing to put in a new bus stop on Zetland Avenue (near Paul Street), Zetland and removing 40 metres of a no stopping zone.
Passengers will be able to catch bus route 304 from this location instead of the existing stops on Joynton Avenue opposite and near the Gunyama Park Aquatic and Recreation Centre. These two stops will continue to be serviced by bus routes 320 and 343.

Bus changes
On Monday 3 March 2025, there will be timetable changes designed to provide passengers in South East Sydney with better connections and a more reliable bus network.
The changes will also make it easier for commuters to access stations along the new Metro line to provide alternatives to driving and offer a smoother combined commute.
What’s changing?
Bus services in South East Sydney are being adjusted to better align to the community’s public transport needs. This will improve connections with Sydney Metro.
Key changes include:
- new trial service route 393 Matraville to Eastgardens
- timetable changes on 309, 377X, 390X, 392, 392X, 396, 396X, 397, 397X.
