Bus changes across South West Sydney
As part of Transport’s plan to deliver a better bus network, we are looking for ways to improve bus journeys across South West Sydney.
This includes additional services on key routes, more seats, timetable changes, and route changes to help provide a better-connected public transport experience.

New bus services coming to Sydney’s South West Macarthur region
The NSW Government is committed to addressing rising demand for more bus services through investment in new and expanded bus routes across Sydney and regional NSW.
From Sunday 5 July new and improved bus services will operate to better service the Macarthur region in South West Sydney.
Key changes include:
Timetable and route changes, more services on bus route 840 services will change to operate between Leppington and Campbelltown Hospital connecting at Oran Park via Catherine Fields. Frequency will improve to every 30 minutes 7 days a week between 5am to 10pm. Provides enhanced connections to Western Sydney International Airport bus routes 845 at Oran Park and 860 at Leppington.
New Bus route 849 will connect Macarthur Heights residents with Macarthur Station, Western Sydney University, Campbelltown TAFE and Macarthur Square. The service will run every 30 minutes between 6am and 10pm, seven days a week.
Replacement of bus route 858 by route 840 which will follow the same route but extend to operate between Leppington and Campbelltown Hospital connecting at Oran Park via Catherine Fields.
More services on bus route 889, timetable enhancements and route changes improve connections to new residential developments and provide greater service frequency along with expanded hours of operation throughout the week. Route 889 will now operate seven (7) days a week benefiting residents travelling between Menangle, Menangle Park, Macarthur Station and Macarthur Square. Route will no longer operate between Menangle and Douglas Park due to low use or between Macarthur Station and Campbelltown Station due to duplication with other bus and rail services.
Also five brand new bus routes connecting Campbelltown (845), Liverpool (825), Leppington (860), Mount Druitt (772) and Penrith (790) with the new Western Sydney Airport will begin operating for more information on these services please visit New Bus Services for Western Sydney.

Bus improvements in South West Sydney from 21 June 2026
From Sunday 21 June 2026, there will be changes to some bus services in South West Sydney.
These changes are being made to improve bus connections with upcoming M1 Bankstown Line Metro services, Greenacre Shops and Chullora Marketplace, reduce crowding on services with high demand, improve reliability and enhance the passenger experience.
Route T80 Liverpool to Parramatta via T-way will now be renumbered to route 80. Route 80 will be upgraded to become part of the All-Day Frequent Network (ADFN), with services to run every 10 minutes or better during the day and every 20 minutes or better early morning and late evening, seven days a week. Services will also operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Other changes to bus services in South West Sydney will include improved service frequency across the week on some routes, route adjustments to simplify the network, and updated timetables to improve reliability.
Key changes include:
- Introduction of new routes 910 (Parramatta to Bankstown) and 950 (Bankstown to Hurstville), replacing route M91
- Changes to some routes in the Riverwood, Lugarno, Greenacre and Punchbowl areas, including improved service frequency and span of hours.
- Adjustments to bus routes in some areas to better reflect demand, reduce service duplication and support connections with other modes of transport.

Back to school 2026 - bus changes
These changes ensure students in growth areas have direct and timely transport options:
- Routes have been adjusted to reflect changes in school catchment areas for Rossmore Public School, and Hoxton Park Public School.
- Two new bus routes, 1065 and 2002 have been introduced, to provide better coverage for Austral and Rossmore suburbs.
- Existing services, including bus routes 1009 and 1010 have been adjusted to improve network coverage and reliability.
- One afternoon trip on bus route 9571 has been withdrawn because it departed too late after the school bell and was not being used by students. This change removes an underused service, optimise and simplifies the network.

We’re reviewing the bus network to improve your journey and make services better connected.
As part of the bus service improvements, we’re proposing changes to some bus stops and welcome your feedback. Transport works with the local bus operator to ensure the proposed location is safe and suitable for operations.
The following factors are taken into consideration in a preliminary assessment for bus stop locations:
- curvature of the road and sight distance
- location in relation to traffic signals and pedestrian crossings
- adjacent land uses
- vegetation, street tree plantings and street furniture/infrastructure
- adjacent traffic volumes and speed
- adjacent parking restrictions
- distances to adjacent bus stops.
As a guide, bus stops are generally spaced at 400m intervals. The number of bus stops should be kept to a practical minimum to maximise accessibility while maintaining suitable journey times and reducing passenger delays.
To facilitate the planning of improved local bus services, Transport is proposing changes to bus stop locations, including creating new bus stops. This will also mean some changes to on-street parking and existing timed parking.\
