Paying a toll or Toll Notice
If you have been issued a toll notice, there are a number of ways you can make payment. You can also nominate another driver if you weren't the person driving.
What is a toll notice?
Motorists are required to pay tolls when using toll roads in NSW. All tolls are paid electronically using tags and passes.
If you travel on a toll road without an electronic tag or pass, you have 3 days to make payment arrangements with the toll road provider. This could include opening a tolling account or setting up a casual pass. Find out How to get an electronic tag or pass.
If you do not pay for the trip, a Toll Notice will be issued and will include the toll charge plus an administration fee.
How do I avoid a Toll Notice?
To avoid receiving a Toll Notice, pay for your tolls when you travel by using an electronic tag or pass. You can learn more about how to get an electronic tag or pass by visiting How to get an electronic tag or pass.
What is an “Unpaid Toll Reminder”?
If you haven’t paid for your trip at the time of travel, you may receive an “Unpaid Toll Reminder” email. This reminder gives you the opportunity to pay your toll before a Toll Notice is issued and an administration fee is added. Please note that video matching fees may still apply at the time of payment.
If the toll is not paid within 48 hours after the reminder is sent, a Toll Notice will be issued. If you don't pay the Toll Notice by due date, you may incur additional fees and penalties.
Why did I receive a toll notice when I have an electronic tag account?
If you have an electronic tag, you may still receive a Toll Notice when your tag can't be detected, or the toll can't be drawn from your account.
You may wish to add your licence plate number to your account so it can be automatically matched if there is an error reading your tag. Please note that there is an additional fee each time your licence plate is matched to your tag account.
If you have a tagless account, there may be an issue with your payment method.
If your credit card expires, or your payment details change, you need to provide the new details to your toll account provider.

Nominate a different driver
If you receive a Toll Notice but were not the person driving at the time, do not pay the Toll Notice. You can give the notice to the person who was driving, or you can nominate them via a statutory declaration.
See Submit a statutory declaration for a toll notice to learn how to nominate another driver.
Or, if you do not agree with the notice, you can Lodge an objection.
