Intellectual property (IP) refers to creations of the mind, often called intangible assets. These include inventions, trademarks, brands, designs, literary and artistic works, and software applications.
IP is a complex area of law, especially when identifying and defining the existence and scope of existing intellectual property.
What you will learn
This micro-credential introduces intellectual property (IP) with a focus on practical industry applications.
By completing this micro-credential, you will:
- identify different types of IP and explain their relationship to ownership
- recognise existing and potential IP within a business and understand the IP registration process and databases
- explain the role and impact of IP in business dealings and legal agreements, including joint ventures, partnerships, and employee contracts
- demonstrate awareness of the limitations of IP registration in global and online contexts
- understand remedial actions for perceived IP infringement.
