Marking guidelines
Marking guidelines are developed with the exam paper and are used by markers to guide their marking of a student's response. The table shows the criteria with each mark or mark range.
Sample answers may also be developed and included in the guidelines to make sure questions assess a student's knowledge and skills, and guide the Supervisor of Marking on the expected nature and scope of a student's response. They are not intended to be exemplary or even complete answers or responses.

Feedback on written exam
Candidates showed strength in these areas:
- identifying precautions for moving a printer (Q21a)
- identifying two ergonomic considerations (Q21b)
- describing how computer equipment can be disposed of environmentally (Q21c)
- outlining relevant actions to prevent computer virus infections (Q22)
- identifying relevant skills for working in a team (Q23).
Candidates need to improve in these areas:
- describing how computer equipment can be disposed of safely (Q21c)
- outlining continuing prevention actions for the organisation (Q22)
- providing an explanation of the relevant skills (Q23).
Candidates showed strength in these areas:
- identifying a role of an audio asset director (Q24a)
- identifying a delivery platform (Q25a)
- explaining benefits of file management (Q26).
Candidates need to improve in these areas:
- explaining rather than simply identifying the benefits of collaboration in producing an animation (Q24b)
- describing areas that need to be considered when scheduling tasks for a project (Q24c)
- understanding the purpose of different delivery platforms (Q25b)
- relating file management to the requirements of digital animation projects (Q26).
Candidates showed strength in these areas:
- understanding the purpose of a production brief (part a)
- identifying an aspect of design specifications or technical specifications (part b)
- producing scene layouts (part c).
Candidates need to improve in these areas:
- differentiating between design and technical specifications (part b)
- justifying rather than just outlining the creative principles used (part c).
Candidates showed strength in these areas:
- identifying a method of connecting a SOHO network to the internet (Q24a)
- identifying an advantage and a disadvantage of fibre cable (Q24b)
- identifying reasons for using a wired network (Q26).
Candidates need to improve in these areas:
- identifying two methods of connecting a SOHO network to the internet (Q24a)
- identifying the main steps, including powering off the system, before installation and testing after installation (Q24c)
- recognising what VoIP stands for (Q25a)
- explaining a benefit of using VoIP in a business environment (Q25b)
- explaining when a wired network is more suitable than a wireless network, with relevant examples (Q26).
Candidates showed strength in these areas:
- identifying security methods (part b)
- identifying some advice a consultant might provide (part c).
Candidates need to improve in these areas:
- understanding the advantages of using a switch over using a hub (part a)
- describing authentication methods as opposed to other security methods (part b)
- explaining the advice and support that should be given to ensure a successful upgrade (part c).
Candidates showed strength in these areas:
- identifying a feature for improving the accessibility of a website (Q24a)
- identifying an error (Q24b)
- explaining the importance of testing websites on different browsers (Q24c)
- identifying the feature as a pre-determined or drop-down list (Q25a)
- recognising an IF statement (Q25b)
- creating a table or an automated table of contents (not sequenced or logically ordered) in a word-processed document (Q26).
Candidates need to improve in these areas:
- identifying two relevant features for improving the accessibility of a website (Q24a)
- understanding the use of opening and closing HTML tags (Q24b)
- explaining the importance of testing websites on different versions of browsers (Q24c)
- using correct terminology in identifying the feature (Q25a)
- understanding how the IF function works in a spreadsheet (Q25b)
- writing a procedure to create a logically sequenced automatic table of contents in a word-processed document (Q26).
Candidates showed strength in these areas:
- identifying the need for a site map (part a)
- recommending a web authoring application and providing some reasons why it is useful (part b)
- outlining information needed for creating the website (part c).
Candidates need to improve in these areas:
- understanding how a site map can be used in the construction of a website (part a)
- providing a relevant justification with reference to the scenario (part b)
- explaining the information that needs to be considered for both the creation and maintenance of the website (part c).
Candidates showed strength in these areas:
- recognising that performing the installation out of hours was important.
Candidates need to improve in these areas:
- answering all components of the question, such as addressing the installation plan as well as the installation options
- taking into account the sequencing of events when outlining an installation plan.
