Marking guidelines
Marking guidelines are developed with the examination paper and are used by markers to guide their marking of a student's response. The table shows each question and the criteria with each mark or mark range.
Sample answers may also be developed and included in the guidelines to make sure questions assess a student's knowledge and skills, and guide the Supervisor of Marking on the expected nature and scope of a student's response. They are not intended to be exemplary or even complete answers or responses.

Use the feedback to guide preparation for future examinations. Feedback includes an overview of the qualities of better responses. Feedback may not be provided for every question.
Feedback on written examination
Students should:
- demonstrate a clear understanding of context, purpose and audience in their responses
- demonstrate a control of vocabulary and language structures in Korean
- recognise, analyse and evaluate the effectiveness of texts.
In better responses, students were able to:
- summarise, and synthesise information and ideas
- present their own ideas and information for a particular purpose, audience and context
- use specific textual references to support their ideas
- demonstrate a perceptive understanding of the texts.
Areas for students to improve include:
- demonstrating the ability to compare and contrast information (Q2)
- demonstrating an awareness of context and audience
- demonstrating the ability to structure and sequence information
- answering in English not Korean (Q1)
- analysing and recognising the key features in texts.
Students should:
- analyse and recognise the key features in texts
- use detailed references to the film and poems
- respond within the stated word limit.
In better responses, students were able to:
- demonstrate sophisticated ability to analyse all texts to show how the message was conveyed throughout the texts
- explain thoroughly what expressions meant in the texts
- provide relevant and detailed references (Q3)
- compare two poems using highly developed language skills and knowledge of content (Q4)
- analyse the way in which language is used to convey meaning related to the environment (Q4).
Areas for students to improve include:
- discussing the issues with a holistic understanding of the given text (Q5)
- writing with appropriate vocabulary and language structures
- paying attention to the required type of text (email in Q5)
- focusing on what the questions ask rather than writing everything they know (Q3).
Students should:
- be able to answer according to the type of text required in questions
- present ideas with depth
- practise more advance sentence structure and sequencing relevant information
- practise doing past papers within time limit.
In better responses, students were able to:
- present ideas and information with perceptive understanding of purpose, context and audience
- demonstrate an excellent control of language structure, grammar and spelling
- express their ideas and information logically, coherently and creatively
- use a variety of sophisticated vocabulary and sentence structures
- adhere to the language conventions and structure of texts required.
Areas for students to improve include:
- using of variety of relevant ideas to express opinions
- avoiding the use of unnecessary or irrelevant information such as statistics
- linking and sequencing ideas, information and opinions in a logical manner.
