Performance band descriptions for French Continuers
HSC performance band descriptions for French Continuers summarise the knowledge, understanding and skills typically demonstrated by students at each band level. NESA uses these holistic descriptions to report a student's level of achievement in the HSC exam.
Band 6
The typical performance in this band:
- uses complex structures to exchange information and opinions and express ideas fluently and accurately in a range of contexts
- competently conveys information appropriate to different contexts, purpose and audience
- expresses a range of ideas with few inaccuracies
- demonstrates an excellent understanding of unfamiliar written and spoken texts and an ability to summarise all relevant information.
Band 5
The typical performance in this band:
- uses a variety of structures and vocabulary to exchange information and opinions and express ideas competently
- conveys information appropriate to social contexts, purpose and audience
- expresses a range of ideas with occasional inaccuracies
- demonstrates substantial understanding of unfamiliar written and spoken texts and an ability to extract relevant information.
Band 4
The typical performance in this band:
- uses a variety of simple structures and accurately attempts to use some complex structures to exchange information and opinions and express ideas effectively
- makes some use of register for different social contexts, purpose and audience
- expresses a range of ideas with inaccuracies
- demonstrates a basic general understanding and identifies relevant details in unfamiliar written and spoken texts.
Band 3
The typical performance in this band:
- uses simple structures and a limited range of vocabulary to exchange information and opinions and express some ideas at a basic level
- demonstrates some awareness of register in different social contexts
- attempts to express a limited range of ideas
- demonstrates a superficial understanding and recognises some details of unfamiliar texts.
Band 2
The typical performance in this band:
- uses simple words and formulaic expressions to exchange information and opinions and express some ideas for minimal communication
- recognises some elements of unfamiliar texts.
Band 1
Performance reported as Band 1 indicates that the minimum standard expected was not demonstrated.
