Continuation of the Korean Continuers Stage 6 course

Effective: Immediately
The Korean Continuers Stage 6 course will not be discontinued in 2026. This is a result of course enrolments exceeding 15 in 2024. Should future enrolments fall below 15 students, NESA will provide further information regarding the potential discontinuation of the course.
Amendment to [Language] Continuers oral marking guidelines

NESA has made a minor amendment to [Language] Continuers oral marking guidelines for inclusivity reasons.

The change to the oral marking guidelines will enable students with a speech impairment or disability to access the higher mark ranges in languages courses.
Update to process for delivering audio files for HSC exams with a listening component
(Official Notice NESA 31/19)
Effective: Immediately
HSC Presiding officers will no longer be given CDs of audio files for HSC exams with a listening component (except CCAFL courses). Instead, principals are required to nominate an authorised person to download MP3 audio files.
The audio files will be available on Schools Online 1 hour prior to the relevant HSC exam.
New Stage 6 school-based assessment requirements

New school-based assessment requirements are to be implemented from Term 1, 2018 for Year 11 and Term 4, 2018 for Year 12. Course-specific assessment requirements are included in the assessment and reporting materials. Sample assessment schedules for Year 11 and Year 12 are available.

The Stage 6 Korean Continuers syllabus and exam specifications have minor amendments for implementation in 2011 Preliminary and 2012 HSC courses. The syllabus amendment is to Section 8.1.1 on page 15. Students are no longer required to undertake an in-depth study.
Changes from current exam specifications
The written exam, Section I: Listening and responding will be worth 25 marks and will consist of one part only, rather than 2 parts, which is currently the case.
Section II: Reading and responding will be worth 40 marks. There will be 2 questions in Part A with questions phrased in English for a response in English. In Part B there will be one extended response question phrased in English for a response in Korean.
In Section III: Writing in Korean there will be 2 questions, rather than one question which is currently the case. The questions will be phrased in English for a response in Korean. The first question will be worth 5 marks and will require students to write an informative or descriptive response of approximately 180 ja in Korean. The second question will be worth 10 marks. There will be a choice of 2 tasks, both of which will require the same text type. Students will be required to write an evaluative, persuasive or reflective response of approximately 500 ja in Korean.
The oral exam will consist of a Conversation only, not a Conversation and Discussion, as is currently the case. The Conversation will be worth 20 marks. Students are no longer required to undertake an in-depth study.
Changes from current exam specifications
In Section III, there will be no choice for the first task. There will be a choice of 2 for the second task, both of which require the same text type.
