About course prescriptions
There are prescribed texts required for study in the Classical Hebrew Extension Stage 6 course. The HSC course prescriptions should be read in conjunction with the:

Prescribed texts
Biblical text prescription:
- Ecclesiastes (Kohelet) Chapters 1–4
Talmud Bavli prescription:
- Tractate Berachot, page 30b, from the Mishna beginning with ‘Ein Om’dim Le’Hitpalel…’ (beginning of the 5th Chapter) to page 33a up to and including the words ‘Sh’pogah Bo Rabbi Chaninah Ben Dosa’ (up to but not including the Mishna beginning with ‘Mazkirin gevurot geshamim’)
Prescribed commentary editions
Where the prescribed text is quoted in the external exam, it will be taken from the following editions:
- Biblical text edition: Elman Y & Shapiro M (eds), 1995, The Living Nach: The Later Prophets, Moznaim Publishing Corporation, New York
- Talmud Bavli edition: Steinzaltz, A (2019) Koren Talmud Bavli TOBY Press. The expanded translation section of the Koren Talmud Bavli (EXCLUDING the following sections: “Notes”, “Background” “Halakha” and “Language”)
Notes
- Study of texts prescribed for any HSC course may not begin before the completion of the Year 11 course. This exclusion applies to study in Year 11 of this course and Year 11 in other subjects.
