Potential discontinuation of the Korean and Literature Stage 6 course

NESA has identified that the Korean and Literature Stage 6 course is at risk of discontinuation due to low HSC candidature in 2024.

Minor amendments to the Korean and Literature and Languages Extension course prescriptions 2025–2030

Effective: Term 4, 2024
- An update has been made to the newly released edition of Jeong, Ho Seung (2024), The square watermelon, in There is no love without pain, Bichae, South Korea. ISBN: 9788934946564 (정호승, 네모난 수박 in 고통 없는 사랑은 없다, 비채) to clarify the correct edition of the prescribed text.

New HSC course prescriptions for Languages and Literature courses 2025–2030

- 2024 – Year 11 (prescribed themes/issues only)
- 2024 – Year 12, Term 4
New course prescriptions for Chinese and Korean Stage 6 Literature for the 2025–2030 HSC have been published and are available in the syllabus section of the NESA website.
- Course prescriptions for Chinese and Literature Stage 6 (2012) for the 2025–2030 HSC
- Course prescriptions for Korean and Literature Stage 6 (2012) for the 2025–2030 HSC
Schools are reminded that the study of texts prescribed for any HSC course may not begin before the completion of the Year 11 course. This applies to study in all Languages Extension Preliminary courses. It also applies to the study of a prescribed text in another medium, such as the film of a novel.
Clarification of changes to HSC course prescriptions for Classical Languages and Languages and Literature courses

The HSC course prescriptions for Korean and Literature have been extended for an additional year. Last HSC 2024.
Changes to HSC course prescriptions for Languages and Literature and Classical Languages courses

Update to process for delivering audio files for HSC exams with a listening component
(Official Notice NESA 31/19)
Effective: Immediately
HSC Presiding officers will no longer be given CDs of audio files for HSC exams with a listening component (except CCAFL courses). Instead, principals are required to nominate an authorised person to download MP3 audio files.
The audio files will be available on Schools Online 1 hour prior to the relevant HSC exam.
New Stage 6 school-based assessment requirements

New school-based assessment requirements are to be implemented from Term 1, 2018 for Year 11 and Term 4, 2018 for Year 12. Course-specific assessment requirements are included in the assessment and reporting materials. Sample assessment schedules for Year 11 and Year 12 are available.
Amended Stage 6 Chinese, Indonesian, Japanese and Korean Background Speakers Syllabuses

The Stage 6 Chinese, Indonesian, Japanese and Korean Background Speakers syllabuses have been amended.
Implementation of the amended syllabuses will commence in Preliminary 2012.
Key amendments to the syllabuses include:
- the removal of the prescribed themes and contemporary issues from the Stage 6 Chinese, Indonesian, Japanese and Korean Background Speakers Syllabuses
- the publication of the prescribed themes and contemporary issues within the separate ‘Course Prescriptions’ documents for the Stage 6 Chinese, Indonesian, Japanese and Korean Background Speakers courses.
Changes from current exam specifications
In Section III, there will be a choice of 2 tasks both requiring the same text type, rather than the current choice of 3 that may be of different text types.
