Amendment – Tourism, Travel and Events Curriculum Framework syllabus

NESA has amended the Stage 6 Tourism, Travel and Events Curriculum Framework syllabus following the release of version 2.2 of the SIT Tourism, Travel and Hospitality Training Package on training.gov.au (2 March 2023).
No impact on HSC courses and their requirements. No changes to HSC Content.
The cover page of the syllabus and associated documents now reference SITv2.2.
Reminder – updated exam specifications for HSC VET exams

NESA updated the HSC exam specifications for Tourism, Travel and Events.
Section II is allocated 35 marks. Section III now structured extended response questions and allocated 15 marks. Section IV now extended response question.
Effective from the 2024 HSC exam.
Updated performance band descriptions for HSC VET exams

Revised Stage 6 Tourism, Travel and Events Curriculum Framework syllabus

NESA has revised the Stage 6 Tourism, Travel and Events Curriculum Framework syllabus following the release of version 2 (10 June 2022) and version 2.1 (9 September 2022) of the SIT Tourism, Travel and Events Training Package on training.gov.au.
The revised syllabus and support materials based on SITv2.1 are now available. A summary of changes is listed below. New course numbers are detailed in the syllabus.
Implementation commences from 2023 with Year 11. The first HSC exam based on the revised syllabus will be in 2024.
Students who commenced a Tourism, Travel and Events course in 2022 and are completing the course in 2023, will continue the course as outlined in the ‘old’ Tourism, Travel and Events syllabus (final year of delivery with Year 12, 2023).
Students who want to undertake the 240-hour Tourism, Travel and Events course in one year in 2023 will also complete the course as outlined in the ‘old’ syllabus.
This is in line with Australian Skills Quality Authority’s (ASQA) approval of an extended learner transition period for qualification pathways from SITv1.3 in the ‘old’ syllabus until 31 January 2024.
Any student wanting to sit the 2023 HSC exam must complete the 240-hour course from the ‘old’ syllabus.

Update to Stage 6 Tourism, Travel and Events Curriculum Framework syllabuses

NESA has updated the Tourism, Travel and Events syllabus, based on SITv1.2, for Year 12 2022 (final HSC exam 2022).
There is no change to examinable content (HSC Content) for the 2022 HSC exam.
The updated syllabus based on SITv1.2 is now available. Effective immediately.

NESA has also updated the Tourism, Travel and Events syllabus, based on SITv1.3 syllabus for Year 11 2022, following the release of version 1.3 (8 April 2022) of the SIT Tourism, Travel and Hospitality Training Package on training.gov.au.
There is no change to HSC Content.
The updated syllabus based on SITv1.3 is now available. Effective immediately.

In both syllabuses where alternatives are provided, registered training organisations (RTOs) should select the appropriate unit of competency for the qualification being delivered. RTOs are responsible for any gap training needed to meet the performance criteria and knowledge evidence requirements detailed in units of competency for these qualifications.
NESA has published support materials to assist RTOs to identify the superseded units of competency relevant to each qualification. These documents replace the individual qualification overviews previously published:
- Status of units of competency for qualifications in the Tourism, Travel and Events Curriculum Framework, based on SITv1.2, and
- Status of units of competency for qualifications in the Tourism, Travel and Events Curriculum Framework, based on SITv1.3.
Schools and colleges should consult with their school system and/or RTO regarding this advice and delivery of courses from the Tourism, Travel and Events Curriculum Framework.
Update to Stage 6 Tourism, Travel and Events Curriculum Framework syllabus

NESA has updated the Stage 6 Tourism, Travel and Events Curriculum Framework syllabus to better support students undertaking the SIT30516 Certificate III in Events qualification pathway.
The updated syllabus and support material are now available. A summary of changes is listed below.
Implementation commences from 2022 with Year 11. The first HSC exam based on the updated syllabus will be in 2023.
Students who commenced a Tourism, Travel and Events course in 2021 and are completing the course in 2022, will continue the course as outlined in the ‘old’ Tourism, Travel and Events syllabus (final year of delivery with Year 12, 2022).
Students who want to undertake the 240-hour Tourism, Travel and Events course in one year in 2022 will also complete the course as outlined in the ‘old’ syllabus.
The 2022 HSC exam for Tourism, Travel and Events will be based on this ‘old’ syllabus.
Any student wanting to sit the 2022 HSC exam must complete the 240-hour course from the ‘old’ syllabus.
Summary of changes – updated syllabus:
- SITEEVT001 Source and use information on the events industry has been moved from the Events stream to the associated HSC mandatory units of competency
- HSC focus area Working in the Industry now allows for selection of the associated HSC mandatory unit of competency relevant to the qualification pathway, either:
- SITEEVT001 Source and use information on the events industry, or
- SITTIND001 Source and use information on the tourism and travel industry
- minor updates to HSC Content across the focus areas (such as references to ‘or events’ added after tourism and travel; updates to titles of legislation, codes of practice and organisations)
- minor changes to syllabus format, such as removal of course requirement diagrams and reduced table referencing.
Revisions to suggested time allocation in some HSC VET exams
(NESA News)
NESA has revised the suggested allocated time for sections of some HSC VET exams from 2020. This will improve consistency of advice across the suite of VET exams.
The suggested allocation of time for each section in the Tourism, Travel and Events HSC exam from 2020 is as follows:
- Section 1 — objective response questions (15 marks) — allow about 20 minutes
- Section 2 — short answer questions (30 marks) — allow about 45 minutes
- Section 3 — extended response question (15 marks) — allow about 25 minutes
- Section 4 — structured extended response question, based on stream (20 marks) — allow about 30 minutes.

NESA has amended the Stage 6 Tourism, Travel and Events Services Curriculum Framework syllabus following the release of version 1.2 of the SIT Tourism, Travel and Hospitality Training Package.
No impact on HSC courses and their requirements. No change to HSC Content.
The cover page of the syllabus and qualification overview documents now reference the latest version of the Training Package, and within the documents NESA has replaced BOSTES and hyperlinks have been updated.
Update to Stage 6 Tourism, Travel and Events Curriculum Framework syllabus

BOSTES has updated the Stage 6 Tourism, Travel and Events Curriculum Framework syllabus, following the release of the new national SIT Tourism, Travel and Hospitality Training Package. The updated syllabus, based on SITv1.1, is now available.

Implementation commences from 2017 with Year 11. New BOSTES course numbers for the updated Framework are detailed in the syllabus.
Students who commenced a Tourism, Travel and Events course in 2016 and are completing the course in 2017 will continue the courses as outlined in the ‘old’ Tourism, Travel and Events syllabus based on SIT12v2, also available on the BOSTES website. The 2017 HSC examination for Tourism, Travel and Events will be based on this ‘old’ syllabus.
2017 students who want to undertake the 240-hour Tourism, Travel and Events course in the one year will also complete the course as outlined in the ‘old’ syllabus. Any student wanting to sit the 2017 HSC examination must complete the 240-hour Tourism, Travel and Events course from the ‘old’ syllabus.
The first Tourism, Travel and Events HSC examination based on the updated syllabus will be conducted in 2018.
