14,000 TRIBUTES POUR IN FOR WORLD TEACHERS DAY
A record 14,000 messages have been received on the NSW Teaching Gems Map, celebrating NSW teachers who have had a lasting impact on NSW learners.
The Map forms part of a NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) initiative to recognise and honour teachers in the community for World Teachers Day.
Today, NESA pays tribute to all 170,000 professionals in NSW across more than 3,000 schools in the government, Catholic and independent sectors.
Among those celebrated on the map is Mr Williamson from Mount Annan Public School:
“Mr Williamson inspires me to dream big. His love for sports encouraged me to join and give things a go. His published books have shown me that if you put your mind to it, you can achieve your goals."
Another student recognised Miss P from Cudgen Public School:
“Miss P inspires me, supports me, helps me and guides me. Miss P is an incredible teacher who teaches Bundjalung language. Her dedication to share language and culture enriches our school and community. You’re truly an amazing teacher – thank you,” wrote a Cudgen Public School student.
Miss Smith from Marter Dei Catholic College was also recognised by her students:
“Miss Smith supports me. Miss Smith, thank you for always helping me get better at things and for making learning fun.”
Another teacher Miss AW from Amity College, Prestons was praised by her students:
“Miss AW inspires me, supports me, helps me, and guides me. Thank you for being such an awesome teacher! I look forward to coming to school every single day! You inspire me and motivate me to do my best and always learn more.”
NESA is committed to supporting the NSW Government’s efforts to support, value and enable the teaching profession – by removing unnecessary administrative burdens to give teachers more time to focus on their core work – teaching.
We are continuing to build on the successful workload reductions in teacher accreditation, as outlined by the Deputy Premier and Minister for Education’s Statement of Expectations for NESA. This includes continuous improvements aimed at reducing overly bureaucratic burdens for schools and teachers.
Recognise a teacher by visiting NESA’s NSW Teaching Gems Map, before Monday 3 November.
For attribution to NSW Education Standards Authority CEO Paul Martin:
“Today we recognise the NSW teachers across the government, independent and Catholic sectors, for their dedication and expertise.
"Teachers do more than teach – they empower children and students to think deeply, grow with confidence and learn.
"The NSW Teaching Gems Map is a wonderful way to showcase our teachers and the difference they make every day – from remote communities to city classrooms.
“Behind every student’s success story is a teacher who believed in them, encouraged them and helped them see what they could achieve.
“Thank you to the record 14,000 students, families and general community members who joined us in celebrating a teacher this year.”
