NESA’s Liaison Officers hit the road to support students and teachers at NSW’s careers expos.
Having met with thousands of senior students at recent careers expos all over NSW, NESA’s Liaison Officers are heading to one of the biggest expos of the season: the Western Sydney Careers Expo.
Running at Sydney Olympic Park from Thursday, 27 June to Saturday, 29 June, NESA’s HSC experts will be available to answer questions from students about what comes next, preparing for HSC exams, how their marks are calculated and which subjects Year 10 students can choose to help land their chosen career.
Our Liaison Officers have been busy helping students find those answers at expos in Randwick and across the Riverina already – totalling over 15,000 attendees.
Manager of the Liaison Unit at NESA, Margot Braithwaite, encourages all senior students to find the NESA stand and benefit from the team’s extensive experience and knowledge.
“Students should feel empowered to ask questions to alleviate their concerns. No matter the question, the NESA team will be able to help,” she says.
Margot, who has been attending the expos for more than 12 years and in various education roles including HSC marking and Head of English, adds that students leave the expos better equipped for their studies. "It is always a highlight meeting with the young people in our NSW schools and their teachers.”
“I encourage schools to head down to a local expo for access to a selection of essential resources, including HSC Exam Workbooks, study tips and information to help students maintain their mental and physical health.”
Teachers who attend our ‘Understanding HSC results in a Standards Referenced Framework’ sessions get 1 hour of NESA accredited Professional Development (PD).
Margot says the best part of the careers expos is hearing students’ plans for their upcoming HSC projects and performances.
“It’s so rewarding when I see I’ve helped a student grasp the idea that, while the HSC is the important culmination to 13 years of schooling, it’s still a stepping stone to what comes next!”
Liaison Officer Christine Keys has been popular with students, teachers and principals at the regional expos in the Riverina, fielding questions about how HSC marks are calculated as well as preparing students for what to expect when they sit their first HSC exams later this year.
Her colleague, Wendy Murphy, will be available to provide her expertise on these subjects at Western Sydney and Bathurst in July.
For answers to these questions and more, meet Margot and the team at Western Sydney Careers Expo, Thursday, 27 June to Saturday, 29 June.
We’ll also be at Bathurst Careers Expo on Wednesday, 31 July.
