2026 HSC Rules and Procedures update for students missing an exam
The 2026 HSC Rules and Procedures guide has been updated to clarify the rule that applies when a student misses an exam due to misreading the timetable.

Section 5.1 of the HSC Rules and Procedures guide has been updated to clarify what happens if a student misses an exam because they misread the HSC exam timetable.
For courses with multiple exam components, such as English or Visual Arts, the student will keep the course if they have completed the other components, but they will receive zero for the component they missed.
For courses with no other exam components, such as Modern History, the student will not be eligible for a result in that course. They must speak with their principal, who will write to NESA explaining the circumstances. If NESA accepts the reason, the student will receive zero for the exam but will keep the course and their assessment mark.
Students cannot apply for illness or misadventure if they miss an exam due to misreading the timetable. Students with a printed copy of the 2026 guide should refer to the NESA website for the updated rule. A pdf version (PDF 632.7KB) is also available for download.
