New 7–10 syllabuses are now available on the NSW Curriculum:
Schools can plan and prepare to teach the new 7–10 syllabuses from 2024. The new syllabuses will be implemented in NSW schools in 2027.
Geography and History 7–10
Key features
- The NSW Government is continuing its delivery of an evidence-based world class curriculum with new History and Geography syllabuses for Years 7 to 10.
- The new syllabuses are more manageable for teachers. Content is clearer and has been streamlined, allowing teachers to focus on essential learning and for students to develop a depth of understanding.
- The new syllabuses help students understand their own and other cultures, increasing their knowledge of the world around them.
- New outcomes and content provide opportunities for students to build knowledge of Aboriginal Cultures and Histories.
- Students develop an understanding of their increasingly complex world, supporting them to engage as active, informed citizens.
- Life Skills outcomes and content provide access for students with intellectual disability.
- Under the NSW Government’s revised timeline, schools will now have more than two years to get to know the new syllabuses, before teaching them from 2027. Previously teachers had just one year.
Visual Arts 7–10
Key features
- The NSW Government is continuing its delivery of an evidence-based world class curriculum with a new Visual Arts syllabus for Years 7 to 10.
- The new syllabuses are more manageable for teachers. Content is clearer and has been streamlined with the number of outcomes reduced, allowing teachers more time to focus on essential learning and for students to develop a depth of understanding.
- Revised content provides opportunities for students to develop an understanding of the Cultural importance of visual arts in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples' Histories and Cultures reflecting connections to Country/Place and Community(ies).
- There is a more inclusive focus which supports the diversity of learners, using a multisensory approach to art making and art critical and historical studies.
- Life Skills outcomes and content provide access for students with intellectual disability.
- The syllabus is available on the Digital Curriculum website, allowing parents and carers to easily access content and practical tips so they can support their child’s learning.

Schools have access to support materials including teaching advice on the NSW Curriculum website to assist with implementation. More resources will be made available over time as well as online, accredited professional development on NESA’s online learning hub.
