Over 3,100 NSW schools begin NAPLAN today
Students across more than 3,100 NSW primary and high schools are putting their skills to the test today as NAPLAN 2026 begins.
Over nine days, students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 will demonstrate their proficiency in reading, writing, conventions of language and numeracy.
The results will provide schools and families with the information they need to track students’ learning and progress.
The tests are one assessment tool schools use to provide information about students' progress in literacy and numeracy.
NSW teachers use these results to complement a broad range of assessments, creating an understanding of how every student is learning and developing these critical foundational education skills.
NESA works closely with all NSW schools in preparation for NAPLAN. This includes implementing measures to maintain the integrity of NAPLAN test environments, ensuring every student has a fair opportunity to succeed.
Schools will have access to their results from the beginning of Term 2, ensuring students receive any necessary support in a timely manner.
Individual reports will be released to families in Term 3.

“NAPLAN assesses the knowledge and skills students learn and apply in the classroom each day.
“It provides valuable information to schools and families about how students are progressing in literacy and numeracy, complementing the wide range of assessments teachers use to support student learning.
“I thank school leaders, teachers and support staff across all sectors for their work in administering the tests and supporting students throughout the testing period.
"I also wish students all the very best while they show their knowledge through these assessments.”
