If you have graduated from a teaching degree in Australia, you may be eligible for Provisional accreditation, a level of first-time teacher accreditation. Find out what specific evidence you need to gather to be ready to apply.

Eligibility to apply for Provisional accreditation
You can apply for Provisional accreditation if you have:
- graduated from a teaching degree in Australia or
hold an ACECQA approved qualification in early childhood teaching. Read the Fact Sheet on

If you do not have your degree certificate (testamur) yet, you may be eligible for Conditional accreditation instead.
Did you complete any of your qualifications outside of Australia?
If you completed any of your qualifications outside of Australia, learn more about the steps you need to take as an overseas qualified teacher.
Evidence you need to apply for Provisional accreditation
- A final transcript from your university that shows all the subjects you’ve completed in your teaching degree, your marks, and credit points awarded
- The degree certificate (testamur) from your university that shows the date your teaching degree was awarded/conferred
- A valid NSW Working with Children Check Clearance for paid employment
- Three identity documents from the list of accepted IDs and a photo of yourself holding one form of photo ID
- English language proficiency: see below for the 3 types of evidence you can provide to show your English language proficiency.
Graduate entry/postgraduate applicants also need to provide:
- a final transcript of your undergraduate degree from your university that shows all the subjects you’ve completed in your degree, your marks, and credit points awarded AND
- degree certificate (testamur) of your undergraduate degree.
Transcript and degree certificate (testamur) requirements
To be accepted, transcripts must clearly show:
- the name of your degree
- your name and student number
- all the subjects you have completed in your degree, your marks, and credit points awarded.
Degree certificates (testamurs) must show the date your degree was awarded/conferred.
The best way to share your qualifications with NESA
NESA accepts your digital credentials via the My eQuals secure online platform. To allow us to process your application more quickly, check if your university uses Parchment/My eQuals to share your qualifications directly with NESA (using the Organisation share option).
We do not accept:
- screenshots
- assessment results
- confirmation of enrolment documents
- letters of completion.
English language proficiency requirements
You need to show evidence of English language proficiency if you have qualifications from a country that is not:
- Australia
- New Zealand (NZ)
- United Kingdom (UK)
- United States of America (USA)
- Canada
- Republic of Ireland.
You must provide 1 of these 2 options:
- Results from a NESA approved English language proficiency test (ELPT)
- An application for an English language proficiency test (ELPT) exemption. Your application must address at least 2 of the criteria

If you have checked that you are eligible to apply for Provisional accreditation and have gathered the required evidence, then you are ready to apply.
You can create an online account and start your application in NESA’s electronic Teacher Accreditation Management System (eTAMS) by clicking on the button below:

Check the status of your application
You can check the status of your application in your NESA online eTAMS account.
If all of your qualifications are from Australia and you’ve submitted all the relevant documents, you’ll receive an email response to your initial accreditation application within 10 business days.
If you don’t provide all the evidence required for your situation, the time to process your application will increase.
