Pursuant to Section 4 of the Apprenticeship and Traineeship Act 2001, the following guideline is issued in relation to the appointment of Industry Training Officers.
This guideline shall apply to the functions relating to the nomination and issuing of an appointment of an Industry Training Officer under Section 65 of the Apprenticeship and Traineeship Act 2001 and the associated identification card.
Upon receipt of a nomination to appoint an Industry Training Officer, the receipting Officer in the Apprenticeships and Traineeships Implementation and Support team must obtain confirmation that the nominated officer has attended mandatory training. Upon completion of training, and the approval of the Commissioner, the nominated Officer will be issued with an appointment and an associated identification card. Industry Training Officers must attend mandatory training every three (3) years.
The scope of the Industry Training Officer’s role is outlined in the Act under Section 66, Section 67 and Section 68. The additional role of conciliator found in Section 40 of the Act will be indicated by appointment and on the identification card when applicable.
An Industry Training Officers appointment is effective for up to three (3) years whilst occupying a relevant position within the Department, unless earlier revoked.
All Industry Training Officers are required to surrender their Appointment and identification card upon exiting employment and upon renewal of the identification card being issued.
Records of the appointment of Industry Training Officers and completion of mandatory training are to be stored in a secure folder on the Departmental system.
This guideline shall be exercised by the Commissioner for Vocational Training and/or the Commissioner’s delegate(s).
