About the survey
In 2023, the inaugural Women in Construction industry survey was launched. Up until then, little was known about the experience of women in the industry and the first of its kind survey was created to understand baseline participation and sentiment across the sector.
The survey comprises two components:
A business survey: to be completed on behalf of construction businesses, to capture company data including policies such as flexibility and culture as well as facilities.
A workforce survey: to be completed by individuals (both women and men) who work in the construction industry, with responses reflecting their personal experience onsite, aspirations, and motivations.
The initial survey attracted over 800 responses from both businesses and individuals, the results of which were collated into a survey report.
In 2024, we conducted our second annual Women in Construction survey to further develop our understanding of key challenges when it comes to culture and diversity and identify opportunities to drive change. The participation rate increased to over 1,000 responses, and the results have been instrumental in providing an evidence base and data from the survey is used to ensure the success of Women in Construction programs and to help address the issues which prevent women from entering or staying in the industry.
