Biodiversity offsets

Learn how the NSW Biodiversity Offsets Scheme supports conservation. Landholders earn credits and developers can find offsets for their development impacts.

For landholders

You can enter into a Biodiversity Stewardship Agreement to manage and protect biodiversity on your land.

When you do this, you earn biodiversity credits. You can sell these credits to:

  • developers who need to offset the environmental impact of their projects.
  • other buyers in the biodiversity credit market.

If you already hold credits or are setting up an agreement, you can also sell your credits to us.

Part of the money from selling credits goes into a fund that pays for ongoing conservation work on your property.

Our team provides advice and site visits to help you meet your agreement conditions.

For developers

You can buy biodiversity credits from the market to meet your offset requirements.

Alternatively, you can pay into the Biodiversity Conservation Fund. We will then deliver the offsets.

Before you can pay, you can also request a quote to see the cost of paying into the fund.
