Securing a buyer for your biodiversity credits
Check if we want your biodiversity credits and apply to sell to us through one of our offers.
Selling your biodiversity credits before your stewardship agreement is finalised
If you’re setting up a stewardship agreement, we may commit to buy your credits before your agreement is finalised.
To be eligible, you must be able to show your agreement is likely to generate the types of credits we need and you can apply to sell your proposed credits through either:
- our fixed price offer at a pre-set price, or
- your preferred price by submitting a bid in one of our credit tenders.
1. Find your IBRA subregion
Go to the SEED Maps website.
Zoom in on your property and click your land parcel.
An information box will appear showing your Interim Biogeographic Regionalisation (IBRA) subregion.
Example: The property shown below is in the Oberon subregion, which is part of the South Eastern Highlands IBRA region.

2. Identify your Plant Community Types (PCTs)
Go to Trees Near Me NSW and follow the steps to identify the plant community types that maybe on your property.
This tool provides a guide only.
To confirm these findings, 1 of the following is still required:
- a feasibility assessment (PDF 100.06KB), or
- a business case, or
- a Biodiversity Stewardship Site Assessment Report (BSSAR).
3. Search the wanted credits list
Visit the credit offer portal and use your IBRA subregion and plant community types to search the wanted credits list.
If:
- your search returns results, we may need the credits you plan to generate
- there are no results, we don't currently need those credits. Check the date at the top of the list and return later to see if the demand changes
- your credits appear on the Wanted Credits List, we may be able to commit to purchasing them before you establish your biodiversity stewardship agreement.
You may be able to sell your credits to us through the options below.
Before applying, make sure you:
- understand how a fixed price offer works, and
- confirm that an offer is open.
At a minimum you will need to provide us a feasibility assessment prepared by an accredited assessor which is a low-cost, initial assessment that helps determine if generating biodiversity credits on your land is viable.
Once your feasibility assessment is complete, you may be able to sell your credits to us at a fixed price.
Before applying, check how our biodiversity credit tenders work and confirm that a tender is open.
You’ll need 1 of the following documents, prepared by an accredited assessor:
- a business case, or
- a draft Biodiversity Stewardship Site Assessment Report (BSSAR), or
- a finalised BSSAR submitted to the Department of Climate Change, Energy, Environment and Water (DCCEEW) with a Biodiversity Stewardship Agreement (BSA) application.
A business case is the minimum required documentation and must include:
- Assessor's name and accreditation number.
- Map of Plant Community Types (PCTs) on the site, verified through on-site assessment.
- Preliminary map of vegetation zones (management zone map not required).
- Estimate of ecosystem credits expected for each vegetation or management zone, based on Biodiversity Assessment Metric (BAM) plot data.
Include: IBRA subregion, PCT ID, Offset Trading Group, and Hollow-Bearing Tree status. - For species credits: survey method, effort level, evidence confirming the species’ presence, and estimated credit numbers.
- Total Fund Deposit (TFD) estimate for the site.
Once your documentation is complete, check if a tender is open and apply.
