Broken Hill Airport upgrade
The upgrade to Broken Hill Airport will improve safety and install the latest technology which will give local businesses, such as mining and film production, the security to operate reliably and efficiently.
Broken Hill will receive funding for airport upgrades to improve safety and bring the airport up to speed with current technology.
The funding will pay to replace:
- aged lighting and cabling
- radio navigation infrastructure
- path indicator lighting to guide planes to the runway
- boundary fencing to prevent wildlife from entering the airfield.
The grant recognises connectivity is important for people living regionally and Broken Hill Airport is the major regional airport in the far west, providing vital air transport links to South Australia, Victoria and the rest of NSW.
The airport upgrade will also give the region’s local businesses and industries, including mining and film production, the reassurance they need to continue to operate efficiently and effectively.
The project is ready to be delivered now with construction to create jobs for tradies, suppliers and contractors.
