What is coercive control?

Coercive control is when someone repeatedly hurts, scares or isolates another person to control them.

It can happen in any type of relationship by an intimate partner, a family member, someone you live with or someone who you rely on for support.

Coercive control can include any type of physical or non-physical abuse. It looks different in every relationship, and it can involve a combination of different behaviours.
