Minggan Guudhi (Sister Song in Wiradjuri) recognizes the vital role that early childhood services play in supporting children birth to 5 years and beyond. The first 5 years of a child's life provides the platform for healthy dispositions towards learning and health outcomes. Towri MACS is an Aboriginal early childhood service. We also acknowledge the importance of Aboriginal child rearing practices, and the kinship circles that place the child as the center of the family model, that shows the delicate relationship that grandmothers, mothers, aunties and early childhood educators play in closing the gap for our jarjums in health and education. Minggan Guudhi recognizes this kinship circle, and the pivotal role we play in the lives of our Aboriginal children and families. Training programs to upskill staff in child and family service delivery and core business functions – we provide care and education for a high number of Aboriginal families who experience intergenerational trauma, disadvantages and vulnerabilities. We receive a high volume of referrals through child protection agencies and are focusing on affording priority of access for our most vulnerable and at risk children. To better support children with trauma informed behaviours, current staff must be trained in culturally safe and responsive training, including working alongside families experiencing domestic and family violence, trauma informed practice, self determination and advocacy. Leadership and governance training for ACCO Board members and emerging leaders – source appropriate professional development opportunities and training for current Board members, and develop a fitness and propriety procedure for attracting new and emerging Aboriginal leaders in our community to hold executive positions on the board.
