Program objective
The Biocontrol Stage 3 program consists of three components which capture the key steps of biocontrol research programs:
- nominating priority weeds as candidates for weed biocontrol research
- research into new candidate biocontrol agents to gather the necessary information to support applications for their release into the Australian environment
- release, monitoring and evaluation of new biocontrol agents approved for release into the Australian environment.
Implementation Plan 5 will focus on the:
- release and evaluation of a recently approved biocontrol agent, the stem-boring weevil Hydrotimetes natans, for cabomba weed (Cabomba caroliniana)
- release and evaluation of a recently approved biocontrol agent, the rust fungus Puccinia rapipes, for African boxthorn (Lycium ferocissimum).
