Toonumbar Dam is an important tourism and recreational facility for residents of the Kyogle region, providing economic and social wellbeing opportunities. For the past two years, the Toonumbar Waters Retreat located onsite has been closed, with critical infrastructure and service repairs required the establishment’s owner WaterNSW are unable to appoint a tenant. The Kyogle Council and Federal Government have recently invested in the site on a new access road ($2M) and amenities block. Toonumbar Dam has been deemed as a significant opportunity for tourism and economic development for the region as an ecotourism and nature based hot spot providing swimming, fishing, boating, walking, bicycle riding and bird watching opportunities. This proposal is seeking funding support to undertake the critical repairs required for the Toonumbar Waters Retreat so that it may leased and re-opened, leading to increased visitation, employment opportunities and regional economic benefits. These fund were awarded as part of stage 1 of the project.
