The primary objectives of the Disaster Ready Fund are to:
- increase the understanding of natural hazard disaster impacts, as a first step towards reducing disaster impacts in the future;
- increase the resilience, adaptive capacity and/or preparedness of governments, community service organisations and affected communities to minimise the potential impact of natural hazards and avert disasters; and
- reduce the exposure to risk, harm and/or severity of a natural hazard’s impacts, including reducing the recovery burden for governments and vulnerable and/or affected communities.

When the project can start and end
Projects must have a maximum three year term. Successful Projects will be required to develop an Implementation Plan for approval by the Australian Government for commencement from 1 July 2024.
The project should be started by 1 July 2024 and the project must be completed by 30 June 2027.

Under the Australian Government guidelines, the NSW Reconstruction Authority is the Applicant to the Disaster Ready Fund. The NSW Reconstruction Authority will coordinate the suitability screening and submission of recommended project proposals on behalf of New South Wales under Round 2.
