Key information

- Application opened: 15 August 2022
- Application closed: 15 September 2022
Program objective
The 2019/20 Black Summer fires burnt a large portion of the Shoalhaven creating a severely denuded landscape. Extreme rainfall events after the fires mobilised sediment and caused significant erosion along waterways.
In early 2022 Soil Conservation Service was contracted to remediate waterways on private properties that had been severely impacted by the fires and floods.
The erosion control structures that were established were initially successful preventing further erosion of the banks.
Unfortunately record flooding 6 months after the structures were completed, caused damage to some of the larger remediation works.
This funding is to repair the on-ground erosion works that were impacted by the floods to prevent any further sediment mobilisation and protect significant investment.
The objectives of the funding are to:
- stabilise erosion control structures damaged by floods
- prevent further sediment mobilisation
- protect riparian vegetation from bank erosion.
This program is funded and administered by Local Land Services.
