Program objective
In May 2024, the NSW Government announced the $13 million Plantations Fire Protection Fund (the program) to provide protection of critical timber supplies in the Murray region in the lead up to the 2024-25 bushfire season.
The delivery of the pilot program will aim to achieve the following objectives:
- Prevention of bushfires occurring or spreading through the construction of new, and maintenance of established, strategic fire trails and asset protection zones.
- Building of rapid response capability, suppression of fires, and prevention of their spread through the provision of fire towers, remote sensing and camera technology to detect fires early.
- Improvement of tactical and operational response through the provision of additional fire tankers, equipment and infrastructure.
The projects funded in the Murray region will be administered as a pilot program with monitoring and evaluation of the program to be undertaken by the Department. The monitoring and evaluation will assist in determining if there is potential to broaden this type of program across the State.
Applicants will be invited to submit applications in a closed, non-competitive process. Please note that an invitation to submit an application does not represent a commitment to fund an applicant’s project.
