Program objective
Projects should align with the Safe System approach to road safety. The Safe System ensures safe roads, safe speeds, safe people and safe vehicles are applied together so the road system not only keeps us moving but keeps us safe and protected.
This program is administered by Transport for NSW.
Eligibility
Who can apply
Only community-based and charity/not-for-profit organisations in NSW can apply, including:
- incorporated community associations
- community trusts
- registered not-for-profits/charities
- social enterprises.

When the project can start and end
The project must be completed by 30 November 2025.
Outcomes for projects funded under this grant
The objectives and outcomes that the application/project needs to address are:
- Demonstrated road safety need for the project?
- Contribution to improving local community road safety
- Organisational capacity to support project delivery
- Value for money
- Project monitoring and evaluation
What costs you can apply for
The program will fund small community‑based education projects such as road rules education, pedestrian safety, or safety awareness for adults about children in vehicles and driveways.
Who can’t apply
- private businesses
- individuals
- research organisations
- government organisations
- local councils (we fund the Local Government Road Safety Program)
- schools and early childhood services (we fund the Road Safety Education Program)
- projects that already receive funding or sponsorship from us
- organisations that present road safety programs directly to school students or children in early childhood services (we fund the Road Safety Education Program)
What costs you can't apply for
Funding is not available for:
- Salary costs of staff to manage the project implementation
- Purchase of assets such as vehicles, computers etc.
- Buying gifts for volunteers or participants
- Overseas or interstate travel, accommodation and sundry personal expenses related to travel
- Costs of products or activities which are the core business of the organisation
Types of projects not funded under this grant
Funding is not available for:
- Projects to deliver off‑road driver training
- Projects to deliver defensive driver training
- Infrastructure already managed by councils or Transport
- Projects that already receive funding or sponsorship from Transport
- Driving simulators

Address the eligibility criteria
Each applicant, as part of an application response, must confirm that they meet the eligibility criteria.
Applicants that do not address the eligibility criteria in full may be excluded from the application process at the department's discretion.
Address the assessment criteria
All applications will be assessed against the following selection criteria:
1. Demonstrated road safety need for the project
2. Contribution to improving local community road safety
3. Organisational capacity to support project delivery
4. Value for money
5. Project monitoring and evaluation
