What’s this about?

The draft harvest strategy applies to Spanner Crab (Ranina ranina) in NSW waters. It has been developed by the Spanner Crab Harvest Strategy Working Group, a sub-committee of the Commercial Fishing NSW Advisory Council, supported by staff from the Department of Primary Industries (DPI) Fisheries branch.

Harvest strategies are a best-practice tool for fisheries management used around the world. The final NSW Spanner Crab Harvest Strategy will provide a contemporary management framework identifying objectives, monitoring arrangements and decision rules for managing harvest and maintaining stock biomass around target levels. Harvest strategies are a key deliverable under the NSW Marine Estate Management Strategy 2018–2028 and under DPI’s Stronger Primary Industries Strategy 2022–2030.
