What’s this about?
The NSW Government is investing $188 million for a link road between Nelson Bay and Fingal Bay.
Transport for NSW is planning for and investigating the feasibility of the project. Fingal Bay is currently accessed through Nelson Bay and Shoal Bay, creating congestion within Nelson Bay during peak holiday periods. With forecast population growth and increased tourist activity, the planned link road will ease congestion, improve traffic flow and improve safety for all road users.
As part of the early planning phase of the project, three options including a link road, are being considered to improve access to Fingal Bay.
Early investigations have highlighted the potential of local road improvements as an effective way to ease congestion, improve traffic flow and improve safety for all road users. Early investigations have also identified a range of environmental constraints and concerns associated with building a new road through the Tomaree National Park.
Transport for NSW is also exploring options to improve public transport connectivity within Nelson Bay to improve access and public amenity in the town centre.
