Regional NSW - Mining, Exploration and Geoscience

What’s this about?

Regional NSW's Mining, Exploration, and Geoscience agency (MEG) is progressing a range of reforms that support the responsible development of the state’s mineral resources. This will help position NSW to become Australia’s premier destination for exploration and mining investment.

MEG undertook a review of mining regulations, policies, and processes in accordance with the NSW Minerals Strategy to improve transparency, efficiency, and community confidence. This review resulted in proposed legislative amendments that will improve the regulatory framework and processes for mineral development in NSW.

The aim of these changes is to enable faster and more efficient decision-making, streamline and modernise processes, improve clarity, and enhance compliance. They also support the NSW Government’s commitment to establishing the new Royalties for Rejuvenation fund.

A draft of the Mining and Petroleum Legislation Amendment Bill 2021 is now available for public comment. Please refer to the explanatory guide and consultation guide for more information.
