What’s this about?

The Motor Dealers and Repairers Act 2013 establishes a regulatory framework for motor dealers, recyclers, repairers and related trades.

The Act establishes standards of conduct and obligations for licensees. It also contains compliance, enforcement mechanisms and protections for consumers and industry.

A discussion paper (PDF, 2.1 MB) has been released to review whether the Act effectively regulates the automotive industry in NSW.

The discussion paper is seeking feedback on:

  • the objectives of the Act and if they are still relevant
  • who should be regulated and how
  • consumer, industry safety and protections
  • the best way to regulate in an ever-changing environment and respond to challenges faced by industry.

NSW Fair Trading is seeking feedback from industry stakeholders, consumers and the public on ways to improve the regulation.
