What’s this about?
From mid-January 2020 to early February 2020, the NSW Government put in place water restrictions to manage the first major water flows across the northern Murray-Darling Basin.
An independent panel has released a draft report on the management of the 2020 northern Murray-Darling Basin first flush event.
The panel is seeking community feedback on its draft report following an earlier public consultation in May 2020.
The report includes recommendations on how the management of first flush events can be improved in the future.
Key recommendations will focus on:
- the communication of water restrictions to water users and the public
- decision-making processes, including matters considered when applying the public interest test
- how prepared the Department of Planning, Industry & Environment – Water, WaterNSW and the Natural Resources Access Regulator were at managing the event.
