What’s this about?
The NSW Government has asked IPART to set appropriate maximum fares for private ferry services in Sydney, the Central Coast and NSW North Coast. The new maximum fares will apply from 1 January 2026.
The private ferry services covered by the review are:
- Brooklyn Ferry Services – Brooklyn to Dangar Island
- Central Coast Ferries – Woy Woy to Empire Bay
- Church Point Ferry Service – Scotland Island and western foreshore of Pittwater
- Clarence River Ferries – Iluka to Yamba
- Captain Cook Cruises – Circular Quay to Lane Cove
- Cronulla and National Park Ferry Service – Cronulla to Bundeena
- Palm Beach Ferries – Palm Beach to Mackerel Beach and the Basin, and
- Palm Beach to Ettalong and Wagstaffe.
The issues we are considering as part of our review include:
- The efficient costs of providing private ferry services.
- The affordability of private ferry services and whether they represent value.
- Competition to private ferry routes.
We want to hear from private ferry operators, private ferry passengers, local communities, and any other interested stakeholders. Our call for submissions paper includes a list of key questions we are seeking feedback on, but we welcome input from all stakeholders on any matter you consider relevant to this review.
We are also seeking feedback through our short 5-minute passenger survey to get feedback on matters such as whether the current fares reflect good value and how the services compare with alternative forms of transport.
