What’s this about?

The NSW Police Force is seeking feedback on the Scrap Metal Industry Act 2016 to identify what works well for the industry and what areas could be improved.

The Act provides regulation primarily to assist police in addressing property crime. This includes the theft and disposal of stolen motor vehicles, copper and other metal at scrap metal yards.

The Act needs to be reviewed every three years to determine whether its objectives remain valid.

The NSW Police Force is asking interested stakeholders to review the discussion paper (PDF, 1MB) and provide feedback on the laws that regulate the industry.
