NSW Health Pathology and the Coroners Court will continue to meet the needs of NSW by modernising the delivery of services relating to coronial inquiries and forensic medicine, including support services. Forensic medicine is a specialised area involving the investigation into the cause of death in defined circumstances.
Project information
The new Lidcombe facility will provide vital services for coronial cases and care and support that is responsive to family and community needs. The facility will be designed and built to facilitate a collaborative working relationship between the NSW Coroners Court and NSW Health Pathology forensic medicine services.
This project is a joint NSW Health and NSW Justice project, with Health Infrastructure taking the lead delivery role. The FMCCC was officially opened by the NSW Attorney General on 11 December 2018. Construction completion was achieved and the building handed over to Health Pathology on 20 December 2018.
Scope
The project delivered:
- a larger footprint than the existing site
- better and larger facilities for public coronial hearings
- improved services and amenities for all people facing unexpected or unexplained loss
- considerably improved amenities for staff performing these vital functions
- a modern, functional design to accommodate contemporary work practices and family support services.
