The former Graythwaite Estate in North Sydney was sold in late 2009 and the entire $35.2 million sale proceeds have been reinvested in a new facility that forms part of Ryde Hospital. Construction on the new facility commenced in April 2012 and was completed in August 2013.
Project information
The project had a total funding of $41.2 million, which was provided by the Graythwaite Trust ($35.2 million), the Australian Government ($5 million), and the NSW Government ($980,000).
The centre is staffed by:
- specialised medical and nursing staff
- occupational therapists
- social workers
- psychologists
- allied health professionals, including:
- dietitians
- orthotic and prosthesis fitters.
These healthcare professionals make up the 120 plus staff that work across the inpatient rehabilitation facility.
Scope
The project delivered:
- 4 transitional living units which assist the elderly regain or develop skills enabling them to return home to their communities
- a hydrotherapy pool
- open plan therapy spaces and consultation rooms to allow for one-on-one patient assessment and meeting rooms to provide space for group activities
- landscaped courtyards and gardens suitable for therapy-based activities and recreation.
