Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital Redevelopment - Stage 2 and 2A

The new clinical services building and expanded Emergency Department (ED) provides a more integrated health experience for patients, carers, staff and visitors to Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital, also giving the local community access to quality healthcare closer to home. 

The project delivered additional ambulatory care services, including new renal dialysis, chemotherapy and oral health services. Community health services has been integrated, and this coordinated care model will help patients achieve better health outcomes. 

Stage 2 of the redevelopment was completed in early 2022. Stage 2A was completed in mid 2023. The NSW Government invested $265 million in the Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital Redevelopment - Stages 2 and 2A.

Benefits

The project will: 

• house an expanded range of enhanced health services in a new purpose-built facility
• co-locate a range of services to better support integration of care and improve patient health outcomes
• provide a larger medical imaging department including MRI for the first time
• house a robotic pharmacy, the first in a public hospital in NSW Include a roof-top helipad
• include services such as a day chemotherapy unit and renal dialysis unit for the first time
• allow the Hornsby Ku-ring-gai community to have access to quality healthcare closer to home. 

Scope

Stage 2 includes: 

• refurbished and expanded Emergency Department
• a new clinical services building
• a combined intensive care and high dependency unit
• a combined respiratory/cardiac and coronary care beds, co-located with a cardiac investigations unit
• outpatient services
• medical imaging
• paediatrics
• medical assessment unit
• transit unit
• inpatient units (including general medicine, stroke and dementia - delirium beds)
• co-located education space with the University of Sydney
• retail and cafe space.

Stage 2A includes: 

• fit-out of two rehabilitation inpatient units
• refurbishment and expansion of psychiatric emergency care centre
• outpatient ambulatory care services, including the provision of a day chemotherapy unit and a renal dialysis unit for the first time
• expansion of oral health services Integration of community health services
• a helipad.
