Stages 2 and 3 of the John Hunter Children's Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit will deliver a range of increased services and improved facilities, to ensure the hospital provides the highest quality neonatal intensive care for babies born in the Hunter region.
Project information
The project also includes new and upgraded facilities for families and staff.
The work has been split into:
- 2A - administration and support facilities
- 2B - partial intensive care and maternity assessment unit
- 2C - isolation rooms and partial intensive care.
This work follows on from the $7 million Stage 1 upgrade which delivered 32 special care nursery cots as well as a new palliative care room.
Scope
The project delivered:
- increased neonatal Intensive Care Unit from 42 to 54 special care and intensive care cots
- clinical support areas
- isolation rooms for babies with infections
- dedicated palliative care facilities
- family support areas including parent accommodation
- staff space and amenities.
