The $12 million project was funded with $10.5 million from the Council of Australian Governments (COAG) under the Sub-Acute Bed Program, and an additional $1.5 million from the NSW Government.
The sub-acute rehabilitation facility is an extension of the current rehabilitation facilities at Mona Vale Hospital and provides support services typical of an inpatient unit. The service helps assist people to recover and achieve the highest possible level of independence following an onset of disease or injury.
Construction commenced in December 2012 and was completed and handed over in mid-2014.
Scope
The project delivered:
- 26-bed sub-acute rehabilitation unit
- co-located and functionally integrated with the existing assessment and rehabilitation unit
- mix of single and 2 bedrooms
- support services
- multi-function spaces for activities including daily living, gymnasium and group therapy spaces
- lounge, dining and activities area
- access to external spaces and landscaped areas for therapy, socialisation and recuperation
- additional car parking spaces, external lighting and pedestrian access.
