Western Sydney Paediatric Hospice, known as Mounties Care Cottage, will be established to support children and young people with life-limiting illness and their families. The new facility will complement Bear Cottage in Manly, also a service of Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network and currently the state’s only children’s hospice.
Project scope
Planning and design will establish the scope of the new paediatric hospice within CHW. It will include spaces for families to connect and will have direct private access to nearby gardens and play areas.
Benefits
The project will:
- Deliver a new, purpose-built paediatric hospice at CHW to provide respite, symptom management and end of life care for children and young people with life-limiting illnesses.
- Support integration with a range of other paediatric health services on across the CHW campus, including oncology, neurology and intensive care, allowing patients access to optimal, efficient and personalised medical care.
- Improve access to paediatric palliative care in Western Sydney and support more families from across the State.
- Build on the comprehensive and supportive care SCHN offers through Bear Cottage.
