Tips for staying active to support your mental health
Here are some ideas for ways to get more active for your body and mind.
Finding a physical activity you enjoy means you’re more likely to do it regularly. This will help you get the most benefit for your mental health. You could try meeting friends for a bike ride, joining a sports team, or dancing to your favourite music at home.
Spending time in nature can have a positive effect on your mood and self-esteem, especially if you’re living with depression or anxiety. Consider a walk in the park, swim in the ocean, or joining a gardening group. Find national parks near you.
Try setting an alarm to remind you to take breaks from work or study. You could go for a short walk or do some heel raises and try changing from sitting to standing at your desk.
If you can, stand at your desk while you work or study. During your breaks, have a little stretch and pause to take some deep breaths.
Try walking, riding or other active ways to get to work. Or get off the bus or train one stop earlier and walk the rest of the way.
