South Coast Correctional Centre welcomes new Radiology equipment
People in custody at the South Coast Correctional Centre will benefit from improved access to new medical imaging facilities and services, following the arrival of new radiology suite.
The NSW Government has invested $250,000 in funding to upgrade the facility and include a Carestream Compass X-ray suite and Dental Orthopantomogram unit, which will replace the pre-existing facility.
With the addition of the new advanced medical imaging machines at the South Coast Correctional Centre patients will continue to be treated on site and without the need to be transferred to other NSW Health services in the community.
Rose Lougheed, Justice Health NSW General Manager Primary Care, said the new equipment will bring significant benefits.
“Justice Health NSW is committed to delivering safe, high-quality care, supporting more equitable outcomes and access for our patients,” Ms Lougheed said.
“There are benefits for both patients and clinicians including access to improved image quality and significantly reduced radiation exposure.”
“By introducing this new equipment, we can support earlier diagnosis, treatment, and better health outcomes for our patients,” Ms Lougheed said.
Amy Loveday, South Coast Correctional Centre Nursing Unit Manager, said the equipment is valuable in enabling better efficiency for health staff and care for patients.
“It is great that we can offer such high-quality medical imaging for our patients,” Ms Loveday said.
“Improving our access to treatment helps improve patient wellbeing while easing pressure on the broader health system.”
“Having imaging technology like this onsite reduces delays, minimises transfers and supports our staff in being able to provide more efficient care,” Ms Loveday said.
