Coronavirus preparations in Far West LHD - Statement
NSW Health, including all local health districts, is prudently planning for a pandemic to care for patients with COVID-19 (coronavirus). The pandemic plan addresses the situation where the infection occurs across the world, including in regional NSW.
As part of the NSW Health response to COVID-19, the Far West LHD has interim plans in place and is preparing a plan for a potential increase in the number of presentations for a respiratory illness over a 10-12 week period in all LHD Emergency Departments.
The measures include compliance with online and practical training around infection prevention and control and application of correct PPE (Personal Protection Equipment). The plan also includes ensuring adequate resources and supplies are available and managed effectively and efficiently.
LHD staff are also continually provided updated COVID-19 updates for hospital and clinicians including emergency departments as provide by the Ministry of Health. Annual leave arrangements and vacancies in key clinical areas will also be reviewed and monitored to ensure adequate coverage and to escalate staffing issues if they occur.
The plan is being developed in line with directives from NSW Health. The public are assured that the Far West LHD is committed to ensuring the safety of our patients and staff at all times.
There have been 15 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in NSW, none in Far West LHD.
Respiratory Clinics:
In line with NSW health policy, this is part of our planning in progress and we will continue to work with the Public Health Unit at both State and local level to determine the requirements and how this will be set up throughout the Far West
