Fundraising Group of Breast Cancer Support Group Donation to Oncology Unit
The Broken Hill Breast Cancer Support Fundraising Group recently donated $5,000 to the Broken Hill Oncology Unit for the purchase of a treatment bed and a pat slide.
The usual fundraising activities for this year's October Breast Cancer Awareness month were impacted by COVID-19, with the store front for the fundraising group not able to open. However, the group were well supported by the public who donated money through various local fundraising activities.
The bed is located in the patient treatment room in the Oncology Unit for those patients who are required to lay down for their treatment, such as specific chemotherapy or other clinical procedures. It is a very comfortable bed which Oncology staff are sure patients will find preferable to the previous older bed. The pat slide will assist with lifting patients who may require additional support to move around the bed.
Melissa Cumming, Program Director Cancer and Palliative Care Services for FWLHD thanked the amazing volunteers from the Breast Cancer Support Group Fundraising Group for the very generous and ongoing support of cancer services in the Broken Hill Hospital.
