Get tested and register for quick SMS results even if you have mild symptoms
Far West Local Health District is urging anyone with even mild flu-like symptoms to get tested for COVID-19 and test results can be obtained quickly via SMS.
Testing saves lives and remains an important tool in the fight against COVID-19, said Mr Umit Agis, Chief Executive Far West LHD.
'Anyone feeling unwell - even with the mildest of symptoms such as a runny nose or scratchy throat - is urged to self-isolate and seek testing, and especially now with the rapidly escalating situation in Melbourne,' he said.
If you have been tested, you can receive your result relatively quickly via SMS - typically about 24 hours after testing¸ said Mr Umit Agis, Chief Executive Far West LHD.
'You can register when you get tested to receive a negative result via SMS in a relatively quick turnaround time. Our staff will help you register for the SMS when you get a test, providing you have your phone or device with you,' said Mr Agis. If you test positive, you'll be contacted directly by a public healthcare professional as a priority.
'I cannot stress enough that testing is essential, it will help contain COVID-19. We have been very fortunate in Far West to only have had two confirmed cases of the virus so far. We don't want to change that and testing is the best way to help protect our communities,' he said.
Testing is available for anyone (residents and visitors) at:
- Broken Hill Health Service COVID-19 clinic (seven days, 10am to 8pm)
- Drive through clinic at BH Community Health Centre staff carpark, Monday to Friday, 10am to 2pm.
- Far West LHD facilities also offer testing.
- A number of pop up fever and COVID-19 clinics are being held across the District, as advertised.
- Check here for full list of testing sites at https://bit.ly/2Bysu0R or www.nsw.gov.au/COVID-19
Mr Agis reminded people that once tested it is essential they follow directions they receive about home isolation and quarantine. Everyone is also urged to maintain COVID-safe practices of physical distancing of 1.5 metres, cough or sneeze into their elbow, and regularly wash their hands.
'These simple but effective measures are helping us maintain a COVID-19 free Far West. We would like to see it remain that way.'
